The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs opened their 2025–26 boys basketball season with authority, rolling past Nordheim 61–21 in Friday night’s non-district matchup. Nixon-Smiley set the tone early with a 13–6 first-quarter lead and never looked back, stacking on 17 points in the second quarter and another 18 in the third. The Mustangs’ defensive pressure smothered the Pirates throughout the night, holding Nordheim to single digits in every period and allowing just 21 points overall.

SAN ANTONIO — Underdogs for the third straight week, the Gonzales Apaches delivered their most dramatic turnaround yet, storming back from a 14–0 halftime deficit to defeat previously undefeated Bandera, 24–14, in the bi-district round Friday night at Harlandale Memorial Stadium. The win ends Bandera’s perfect season and sends Gonzales into a historic second-round playoff meeting with longtime rival Cuero.
